Poppy Fascination

These red crape poppies typically have a black cross in the center, but not this particular one.

The centers are mostly dark purple, with some variation, such as the powder green above,
And here is a yellow, with no sign of the black cross at all, as it is yet to form.

Here is the purple, power green, and yellow all next to each other perfect for the photo.
The yellow center has a white cross which is very unusual.

All of the nodding flowers are facinating because their form is so unusual compared to other flowers,

With their hairy pods, and stems and they way they will eventually lift up.

The black cross is seen from underneath the flowers too.

The seed pods have a striking architectural form and I can't wait until I can gather them to put in a vase, and to collect the seed for next season.

Thanks for visiting! To all of my gardening friends, carry on and hurry back!

  1. Beautiful!

We're still waiting for flower seeds to come up, just had the first sunflower seeds sprout. Now we wait to see what will eat them!

Yesterday we planted hyssop and today found it cut off by something that didn't even bother to eat it.

Also planted a couple of your Morning Glories out, fortunately in a little cage.

The desert is still in full bloom. We just discovered wild flowers today that I've never seen before and the desert marigolds are everywhere. Have to take some pics.

But those poppies sure are stunning!
